At Salzgitter AG, an internationally operating group with a diverse portfolio of products and services, we believe that strengthening intercultural competence is essential. That is why, in addition to our national development programs, we also offer internationally oriented training initiatives.
Just a few weeks ago, the Salzgitter International Training Program (SITP) kicked off in Hildesheim.
12 dedicated employees from various regions and companies and subsidiaries came together to grow, learn and develop —with a strong focus on international collaboration and cross-cultural exchange.
In the next part, participants share how they experienced the first of three modules — what they have already learned, taken away and how the week has inspired them so far.
As participants in the Salzgitter International Training Program, we had the opportunity to engage in the first module, focused on team building and cultural awareness. This module was an eye-opening experience that set the tone for the rest of the program.
Icebreakers and initial impressions: The module began with a series of icebreaker activities designed to help us get to know each other. One of the most memorable exercises was the „Magic Stick“ activity, where we had to lower a stick to the ground using only our index fingers. This seemingly simple task highlighted the importance of communication and coordination within a team. It was fascinating to see how quickly we bonded over shared challenges and laughter.
One of the highlights of the module was the discussion on cultural similarities and differences. Participants from various countries shared their experiences and perspectives, which enriched our understanding of each other’s backgrounds.
Overall, module 1 was an enriching experience that highlighted the significance of teamwork and cultural understanding. The activities and discussions were engaging and thought-provoking, leaving us with a deeper appreciation for the diverse perspectives within our group.

“We met as a colorful bunch from the various Salzgitter AG companies in Hildesheim for our first SITP module. Over the course of 5 days, we worked on various topics together with our coaches. On top of topics such as presentation techniques, we were also able to welcome a top manager from Salzgitter AG as a special guest and ask him our questions, such as how he sees the company positioned for the future.
In addition to the work, the joint activities were a real highlight. A guided tour of the city, climbing activities, and last but not least, dinner together strengthened the sense of togetherness within this year’s SITP program, and we are looking forward to the next modules!”

As we conclude the first module of our Salzgitter International Training Program, we reflect on the valuable insights, engaging discussions, and collaborative spirit that have defined our time together. Participants from diverse backgrounds came together to share experiences, exchange ideas, and build a strong foundation for the journey ahead. The energy and enthusiasm shown throughout this module have set a positive tone for the remainder of the program.
